You don’t even have to see the tiny bakery in order to know where to get the freshest shortbread in town – the scent of melting butter already catches your nose while walking down the street! Pinnies & Poppy Seeds have been selling their treats at the Farmer’s Markets since 2011, and in 2013 they opened their shop just on the side street of the Royal Mile.
The tiny shortbread bakery offers five flavours every day, their Classic All Butter one being the only constant appearance. What is special about this shop is that they try to use Scottish products only to support the local market and to bake a bit of Scotland right into every piece of shortbread.
The kitchen is right behind the counter, so you can see how your shortbread pastry is rolled and cut. Although one piece of shortbread is quite expensive at £1.20, the taste is worth the price and the super-friendly staff and the atmosphere will absolutely convince you and will also make you want to try some of their freshly baked traditional Scottish pastry.
