Taking place every Saturday morning on the Castle Terrace, the Edinburgh Farmers’ Market provides a wonderful opportunity to buy local products. The Farmers’ Market is now in its 17th year and some of the current stallholders like Stilchill Jerseys (bread & cheese) have been there since the market first opened. Most of the 40-plus stallholders sell what they grow or rear on their own farm. Others trade in specialised products like Greek olive oil or organic chocolate from South America.
Although not all of the stallholders come weekly, you can always find a great variety from fruit and vegetables, meat and fish to artisan products like butter, cheese, bread, quiche or juices at over 25 stalls. Apart from buying food to take home, you can also get coffee, something for breakfast or lunch, sit down and enjoy the wonderful view up to Edinburgh Castle.
Insider tip: for people coming from outside the city, there is parking nearby, but you’ll need to pay to park your car there…
